Dear Fellow Gardeners,
We are excited that you have given us the opportunity to serve as your Garden Club Co-Presidents for 2021-2022. Thank you for your vote of approval at the June meeting. We wish to acknowledge our members for the commitment shown during the pandemic. Not only did we see you on Zoom, but many of you continued to work outdoors in the community to advance our mission.
This year we are looking forward to re-opening our monthly Programs and Business Meetings back to in person. Vicki Harrington and Anita McFadden have put together an exciting list of programs where we will have the opportunity to learn about planting bulbs, hydrangeas, pruning, and much more. Our Open Meeting will be in person at the parish hall at St. Mary’s. For the first time we will be selling handcrafted items made by our very own members in addition to a scaled down raffle. We have been given the opportunity to once again “dress up” the Historical Society House for the holidays and to use the space to celebrate at our annual holiday party. We’re looking forward to participating in interactive workshops, one of which will focus on flower design in anticipation of Art in Bloom. Several members have mentioned that they hope we will include field trips to New England Nurseries and/or botanical gardens over the course of the year. We also need to commence with plans for our Club’s 90th anniversary in 2022-2023.
We hope to grow our membership and get our newest members back on track to lead the club into the future. We can do this if everyone steps up to the plate to join us in learning about all aspects of gardening, collaboration with each other and other community groups, education through the Garden Club Federations flower schools, flower shows and conservation efforts.
We promise to promote our accomplishments by showcasing our monthly meetings and projects of all types and sizes and by doing our part to volunteer. Let’s make this a year of opportunity now that we’re able to come together after a long year and a half. We promise we will be there with you!
Fondly,
Lee Guertin and Valerie Howes
