The Holliston Garden Club has been planting a tree on Arbor Day for many years. This years tree is a Red Sunset Maple donated to the Holliston Rail Trail by the Holliston Garden Club. An Arbor Day Celebration took place at Cross St. on Sunday 4/27. We talked about the significance of Arbor Day and when it started in Nebraska in 1872 by Julius Sterling Morton.
This year The Holliston Garden club sponsored Girl Scout troop 64082 for the Smokey Bear Poster contest, run by the Garden Club Federation of MA. & the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation. Pictures of these posters were put on display at the Holliston Library by the garden club. At the Arbor Day ceremony the Troop was introduced by their leader and the girls read an Arbor Day poem. We all sang God Bless America and closed with a toast with water to our newly planted tree.
